Studies

Nadine Mulder graduated from Macquarie university with a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and a Masters of Chiropractic. During her studies, she also completed her Certificate of Peadiatrics for the family Chiropractor.

Since completing her masters, Nadine was the first person to receive a scholarship to do her Masters of Chiropractic Pediatrics through the University of Wales, UK and required her to work in several clinics across country Victoria.

Her Paediatric study, has been supervised by Dr. Neil Davies, a world renowned Chiropractor, author and international teacher in the field of paediatrics, in conjunction with paediatritians, both clinically and theoretically.

“I thank Dr. Davies for his commitment and diligence in my training. He taught me how to think about the whole patient, how to use the information given to me appropriately, to never assume anything or take short cuts and most importantly how to care and have compassion for every patient. And for these imperative clinical and life lessons, I am eternally grateful.”

Philosophy

Nadine strives to better her skills and knowledge by keeping up to date with research and continuing her studies in paediatrics.  She believes that broadening her knowledge gives her the tools to provide her patients with the very best care she can.

Nadine also believes that the right to treat young humans must be earned. You must be educated on the specific needs, pathologies, neurology and mechanics of the patient to give you the skills and knowledge to provide the right diagnosis and treatment that is tailored to the child.

Nadine is committed to her patients and strives to practice with compassion, honesty and diligence.

She respects the trust invested in her by the patients and their parents and feels honored to have an influence in providing children with the best start at life they deserve and to help ensure that the family can enjoy every moment of this special time.

Consultations

The initial examination involves the assessment of the child’s cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems as well as an orthopaedic examination particularly of the hips and a close inspection for other signs of underlying pathology.

The neurological exam involves checking primitive reflexes, developing reflexes, fine and gross motor skills, social, vision, hearing and language development, appropriate for age.

Once this examination is complete and found to be normal, the patient is examined using chiropractic methods. This involves specific spinal and peripheral range of motion tests allowing the chiropractor to locate the exact location to apply a neurological stimulus.

Treatment

Nadine uses a very gentle technique that aims to calm tension held within the nervous system and to encourage appropriate communication between the brain and the body. It works with extremely low force adjustments, whereby there is no cracking or manipulation style treatment. This style of treatment is gentle and safe and used in the care of patients of all ages.

It is highly beneficial for an assessment to be carried out at various milestones during a child’s development. This is to ensure they are developing at a rate that is normal for their age.

The Pregnant Patient

In her experience, pregnant patients respond extremely well to gentle chiropractic care. This is an exciting yet stressful time on the mother’s body as it copes with copious physical and chemical changes in preparation for the nourishment and delivery of her baby.

With a chiropractic adjustment, Nadine aims to, in a way, reset the nervous system so that the messages coming from the brain to control muscle tone and joint positioning are appropriate allowing for optimum pelvic mechanics.

How the Adjustment works

All the bones and joints in your body have lots of muscles that attach to them. It’s the muscles that determine and control how the bones and joints move and how they are positioned at rest. The muscles are controlled by the messages coming from the brain through the nerves.

Sometimes, a negative stimulus to your body such as stress, allergy, chemicals, a fall, etc. can affect the nerves and "muddle up" the communication between the brain and the muscles. This is called dysafferentation. In infants, negative stimulus may take the form of complications in pregnancy, a birth that is particularly long or short, birth by caesarian section, the administration of pain medication, and the use of suction or forceps are some examples of a negative stimulus that may contribute to dysafferentation.

This miscommunication can either cause muscles to become disproportionately tight or weak. This causes a decrease in the available movement between the joints, causing stiffness and pain.

With an adjustment, Chiropractors send a message to a very specific part of the brain to in a way, reset those messages and restore normal tone to the muscle, allowing it to relax.

By restoring the normal communication between the brain and the muscles you should get an instant increase in movement. The pain might take 1 or 2 days to disappear after an adjustment as there is often residual inflammation to clear.

Questions and Answers

Will I need to come back often?

All subsequent visits are tailored to each patient on a visit-by-visit basis. Follow-up appointments can be made one at a time with your agreement and depending on the individual response of the patient. There is absolutely no scheduling.

Will I hear a popping or cracking sound?

No. This technique is gentle and safe. It is aimed at normalising the nervous system, not to "put anything back in place."  There is no cracking, or manipulation style treatments. It is gentle and safe and used in the care of all patients.

What should I expect afterwards?

Every patient responds differently to a chiropractic adjustment. More often than not, the child will sleep soundly afterward with a sense of relaxation, some children will respond with heightened energy levels while a small number will respond with slight irritability or unrest, which usually lasts for no longer than 24 hours.

Testimonial

At ten weeks of age, my baby son was only comfortable when feeding on one side and often cried while being dressed.

Nadine Mulder, our baby’s Chiropractor, very quickly established that he had restricted movement when turning his head and that one of his arms did not move freely.

She adjusted my baby using NIP and the results were virtually immediate. After one visit, my baby’s head moved freely and he began feeding normally on both sides. His arm regained full movement, making it more comfortable for him while being dressed.

Nadine was very professional and informative. She was very gentle with my baby and it was reassuring to know that everything else was perfect.
